By WeatherBug Meteorologist, John Bateman | Not much of a change in the weekend weather pattern is expected today across the U.S. More storms will roam the Plains while scattered showers plague the Northeast. The Southern Plains will stay hot as the heat builds northward.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Gretchen Mishek has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
Across the Northern Tier, scattered afternoon showers will pop up again. The Northern Plains and Central Plains may have their outdoors plans put on hold as severe storms rumble through. These storms will be capable of producing damaging hail and strong winds, from Wichita, Kan., to the Twin Cities. Otherwise, the Plains, stretching from Texas to the Dakotas, will see temperatures rising into 80s and 90s, with some 100s in West Texas.
The Northeast will see more pesky showers holding on for upstate New York, Connecticut and New York City itself. A stray thunderstorm can`t be ruled out either. Despite the rainfall, it looks like much of coastal and northern New England will stay out of the rain, with partly cloudy skies expected. Temperatures will be warm across the board, with highs in the 70s and 80s.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will once again pepper the Gulf Coast. Low pressure off the Louisiana Coast will continue to help moisture surge northward, providing frequent thunderstorms. This heavy rain could cause flooding problems from New Orleans to Birmingham, Ala. Even with the clouds and storms, temperatures will still be warm, with highs in the 80s from Louisiana to Georgia.
The rest of the country looks tranquil again as high pressure will dominate the Northeast and provide mostly sunny skies with highs in the 70s and 80s. One exception will be the Pacific Northwest where a few showers may fall in the afternoon. The Intermountain West and Northern Rockies will also see mostly sunshine with a few afternoon showers and highs generally in the 70s and 80s. In general though, the West looks sunny and warm with highs in the 60s and 70s along the coast. Farther inland, temperatures will increase quickly, with 90s and triple digits in the California deserts and Southwest.
