UPDATED By WeatherBug Sr. Meteorologist, James West
Time to head back to the daily grind after a long holiday weekend, but for some folks, there will be no time off from the severe thunderstorms that dampened weekend plans. More storms are expected in the Northeast and Southern Plains today, as Tropical Depression Beryl slowly spins in the Southeast.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Addison Green has the latest in his exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
A cold front stretched from Oklahoma to the Great Lakes and a warm front across New England will keep the chances for showers and thunderstorms across a good chunk of the U.S. Scattered showers and storms will be possible from the Plains, through the Ohio Valley, into the Great Lakes, and eastward into New England. In some locations those storms could contain large hail and damaging winds. Temperatures south and east of this front will be warm and muggy. Highs are expected to warm to the 90s across the Southern Plains, and to the 80s from the Great Lakes into the Northeast. Only northern and coastal areas of New England will stay in the 70s.
What`s left of Tropical Storm Beryl will produce a breezy, soggy day to the coastal Southeast. As its remnants slowly churn eastward, several inches of rain could fall in some very parched areas. Widespread showers and storms will be found from Florida through the Carolinas, with imbedded pockets of heavier rain. More general showers and storms will scatter themselves across the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures once again will be warm and muggy, generally in the mid-80s to lower 90s.
Elsewhere, the Northern Tier will be rather cool, with parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley seeing showers. The Intermountain West and Northern Rockies will see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms today, with highs in the 50s and 60s. Along the West Coast, it will be sunshine and temperatures in the 60s for the Pacific Northwest, 60s and 70s for coastal California, and 80s in the interior valleys. The Desert Southwest will continue its big warm-up with highs approaching the triple digits in Phoenix.
