By WeatherBug's James Stanley | The southern Plains can finally breathe a sigh of relief today following several consecutive days of severe weather. The Tennessee Valley, Great Lakes and Northeast won`t be as lucky.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in this exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook video.
A strong cold front will be plowing through the Tennessee Valley and into the Northeast. Therefore, residents of places such as Nashville, Tenn., Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Buffalo, N.Y., will need to be on guard for potentially damaging winds, hail the size of golf balls with a few tornadoes also possible. A quick half-to-one inch of rain could pelt these locations as well.
Today`s temperatures will warm up to the low 80s in much of the Tennessee and Ohio valleys and the Northeast, with some places reaching the upper 80s in West Virginia and southeastern Pennsylvania.
Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Great Basin, a strong cold front will be bringing mixed rain and even a bit of snowfall. Temperatures for the Pacific Northwest and the Northern Great Basin will fluctuate between the low 30s in the higher elevations to upper 50s, per the rain and snow mix.
A combination of an approaching cold front and moisture moving around the periphery of an Atlantic high pressure will produce showers in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80s, and even the low 90s in southwestern Georgia and southern Florida.
Large stretches of the Plains from North Dakota to Texas will be dry and enjoy plenty of sunshine. Highs will range from the 50s along Interstate 94 to the toasty 90s along the Rio Grande Valley. The Southwest will also feel like summer with sunshine and 90s to lower 100s.
