UPDATED By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Fred Allen
The Plains record-shattering midweek heat will spread into the Ohio Valley and across much of the East Coast today. Only a few thunderstorms will provide cooling-relief for the Great Lakes and South Florida, while the hit-or-miss storms in the West won`t slow down its own bout of building heat.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in this exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
The brutal Plains and Midwest heat will continue uninterrupted, with cloudless skies supplying another scorcher from Texas all the way to western Ohio. The dangerous heat won`t stop there, blasting into the big cities of the Interstate 95 corridor from northern New Jersey to north Florida. Oklahoma City, Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Cincinnati could all see record-shattering heat today.
High temperatures will range from the widespread 100s from Texas to western Ohio, to the lower and middle 90s along the East Coast. While the humidity won`t be a huge factor along the East Coast, high humidity will make it feel more like 105 to 115 degrees across the Plains, Midwest and Ohio Valley.
The only relief from the heat will be a cluster of fresh storms trucking across the Great Lakes later this afternoon and evening, while refreshing lower 80s expand into the Dakotas and Upper Midwest in the wake of a cold front.
Aside from a smattering of late-day showers and thunderstorms in South Florida and the Colorado Front Range, the weather will be terrific across the West, as will temperatures too. A blanket of sunshine will send the mercury soaring into the 80s, 90s and triple-digits, except chilly 60s and 70s will be in control of the Interstate 5 corridor in the Northwest and along the Colorado Rocky Front Range.
