By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Seth Carrier | Record-breaking, dangerous heat will continue unabated east of the Rockies as July arrives with a vengeance. Elsewhere, a rash of powerful storms will target the Great Lakes to Mid-Atlantic, while the Northwest remains mired in a gray and damp pattern.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Bryan Karrick has the latest in his exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
A broad area of high pressure will continue to hold fast across the eastern U.S., creating sweltering weather for any early Fourth of July activities. The blast furnace will remain stuck in overdrive from the Southeast to the Plains and even into the Intermountain West. These locations will continue to bake with highs well into the 90s. The Deep South and Rocky Front Range could see temperatures climb above 100 degrees again, with the heat index in the South reaching a brutal 110 to 115 degrees.
The Northern Tier will remain behind a weak cold front, and more strong-to-severe storms will be possible from the Western Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Temperatures in the 80s will dominate Northern New England, with highs approaching 90 from Boston to Minneapolis.
A few showers and storms will dampen the Texas coast, while scattered showers continue to make the Pacific Northwest the coolest area in the U.S. In between, bright sunshine will dominate the Rockies and Great Basin. Meanwhile, another batch of powerful storms could fire up in Montana.
The deserts of Arizona and southeast California will again see highs above 100 degrees, with temperatures decreasing to the 80s in the Northern Rockies. Meanwhile, West Coast cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle will only climb into the upper 60s and low 70s.
