Picture-Perfect Preakness Race Weather Expected UPDATED 2 PM EDT, May 19, 2012 By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Chad Merrill | The weather for the 137th Preakness today in Baltimore couldn`t be any better. The same pattern in place at the end of the work week is being carbon-copied for the start of the weekend. The Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore will be dry as "I`ll Have Another" takes the second of three steps toward a historic Triple Crown. A strong high pressure system firmly in place is bringing a dose of sunshine this afternoon. Temperatures will hover around the lower 80s during the Preakness Pre-Race. The sun will lower in the sky during the evening with readings dropping into the middle 70s by the 6:45 p.m. EDT start. Temperatures will then fall back into the 60s this evening with clear skies and dry air in place. Following almost a week`s worth of rain, the weather last year for the Preakness Stakes was just as perfect as what is expected for today`s race with temperatures around 80 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
