By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Seth Carrier | Just as meteorological summer gets underway, the calendar is stepping back a notch to late spring with cooler readings in the Northwest and Northeast. Other than a few severe storms rumbling across the Central Plains, large stretches of the U.S. will enjoy a quiet end to the weekend.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Gretchen Mishek has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
The jet stream dipping back to the south will bring cooler 60s and 70s to the Northwest and Northeast. The trade off to the refreshing change is the scattered showers that could interrupt outdoor plans in places like Pittsburgh, Buffalo, N.Y., Washington, D.C., and Boston.
The only other weather hiccup will be a pesky weak weather system combining with warm 80s and 90s to initiate severe thunderstorms in the Central Plains and Missouri Valley later today.
Otherwise, the heat will slowly subside in the Southwest and Great Basin, although highs will still climb above the century mark. Clouds mixed with sunshine and highs in the 70s and 80s will spell a picture-perfect day in the Northern Plains while the outdoor pools will feel refreshing in the Southeast where 80s will be widespread.
