UPDATED By Weatherbug Sr. Meteorologist, James West
Broiling heat will cover most of the Plains today, while Tropical Storm Debby creeps closer to the Florida Big Bend. Drier and cooler weather will be found across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast in the aftermath of Monday`s thunderstorms.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Susie Clark has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
Debby`s painstakingly slow pace toward the Florida Big Bend will mean more of the same, at least in a weather-sense from southern Georgia all the way to South Florida today. Debby will lash Florida`s Gulf Coast and southern Georgia to South Carolina with torrential bands of wind-whipped rain and storms. The good news is the rainfall will be beneficial, easing or even erasing the Southeast`s long-term drought festering since early 2011. Even a few tornadoes will spin up across western and central Florida.
Extreme heat will expand and roast the central U.S. as highs skyrocket into the 90s and triple-digits from the western Dakotas all the way down into southern Texas. Add in high humidity and it will feel even more uncomfortable across the Plains from Texas to Nebraska. Only a few pop-up thunderstorms may bring relief along the Rockies` higher elevations and across portions of Montana and North Dakota during the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Upper Midwest to the Northeast will see a sunshine-filled sky and slightly colder than normal temperatures. Highs will range from the upper 60s to lower 80s with low humidity.
Like its northern counterparts, sunshine will rule in the Southwest, but temperatures will be anything but comfortable with highs in the triple-digits. The one exception will be near Seattle, where a few showers will fall in the afternoon. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s along the coast, with 80s in the inland valleys.
