UPDATED By WeatherBug Sr. Meteorologist, Julie Gaddy | The second day of the work week won`t be much different than Monday across large stretches of the East where showers and thunderstorms are on the weather menu. Cool and showery conditions will greet locations in the Northwest while severe weather rolls across the Northern Plains and Southeast.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Addison Green has the latest in this exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain, wind, and hail could pepper the landscape from Florida to Vermont with a weak disturbance stalled across the East. The good news is that Tropical Storm Alberto will continue to slide away from the coast.
Despite the widespread rain and clouds, temperatures across the East will be relatively warm, with 80s in the Southeast, 70s through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and upper 60s in northern New England.
A cold front moving into the very warm northern Plains will set off strong to severe storms across the Dakotas and western Minnesota this afternoon. Southerly winds will warm temperatures into the 80s and 90s across the Heartland from San Antonio, Texas, to Minneapolis.
Cool and wet weather could put a damper on outdoor plans in the Northwest. Many locations will see cloudy skies with showers. Temperatures won`t rise much as the mercury will struggle to reach 60s in places such as Seattle. Some snow is even possible along the higher Northern Cascades peaks.
The Midwest will see bright May sunshine with temperatures warming into the 70s and 80s. Highs along the California coast will hit the 60s and 70s with 80s and 90s inland. The sunny Desert Southwest will continue to bake with scorching 100s.
