Today's Weather Outlook 8:15 AM EDT, June 12, 2012 By WeatherBug's Matthew Mehallow | Today will be a soggy day for large stretches of the eastern and southern U.S. The Northwest will even see a few showers. WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook. Showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain, wind, and hail will pepper the southern and eastern U.S. from Texas to Florida and from Florida to New York. Locations that receive a heavy shower or two could pick up a quick quarter- to half-inch of rain, if not more. Despite the widespread rain and cloud-cover, temperatures across the East will be relatively warm, with 80s in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, and 70s throughout the Northeast. Summer-like warmth will occupy the Central and Southern Plains. Hot, breezy, and mostly sunny conditions will be the story for most of region excluding the Southern Plains north toward the Black Hills where scattered thunderstorms will rumble. These storms, from Texas to South Dakota will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds with a chance of an isolated tornado. Temperatures across the central U.S. will range from the mid-90s in Texas, 80s in the Central Plains and 70s throughout the Northern Tier. Cool and wet conditions in the Northwest could put a damper on outdoor plans. Many locations will see mostly cloudy conditions with showers. Temperatures will rise though, as the mercury reaches the mid- 60s in places such as Seattle. Elsewhere, mainly dry weather is expected. The Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley will see bright June sunshine with temperatures warming into the 70s and 80s. The Intermountain West and Northern Rockies will also see mostly sunshine with highs generally in the 70s and 80s. Along the California coast, high will hit the 60s and 70s, with 80s and 90s inland. The sunny Desert Southwest will continue to bake, with highs in the 100s.
