UPDATED By Weatherbug Meteorologist, Seth Carrier | The Northeast is set to enjoy another day of generally sunny and dry conditions. However, locations in the Northern and Central Plains will see strong to even severe storms. Meanwhile, the heat will roast the Southern Plains today.
WeatherBug Meteorologist Todd Nelson has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook.
High pressure will remain over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, and provide primarily benign and sunny weather. Bright sunshine will prevail from Washington D.C., to Portland, Maine, as temperatures will be a tad warmer with highs rising into the 70s to near 80. Lower humidity will make it feel comfortable.
Sunshine and low humidity will rule the Southeast for another day in the wake of a cold front. Cooler and drier air will confine general thunderstorms to Florida and along the Gulf Coast. The main threat from these storms will be heavy rain and gusty winds. Highs will reach the mid-80s to lower 90s in the Southeast.
Air conditioners will be humming in the Plains as hot and mostly sunny conditions grip most of the region excluding the Northern and Central Plains, where afternoon and evening storms are on tap. Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and even a few tornadoes will be on the weather menu from Duluth, Minn., to western Kansas. Temperatures will warm into the 80s and 90s across the nation`s heartland, from Houston to Minneapolis.
Otherwise, the Ohio Valley to the Pacific Northwest and Desert Southwest will see mostly sunny skies. A delightful stretch of weather will continue in the Great Lakes where highs will only reach into the 70s and 80s. The Intermountain West will also see sunshine with highs generally in the 70s and 80s. The West Coast will be sunny and dry with highs in the 60s and 70s along the coast, and 80s and 90s inland. Triple-digit heat will continue to cook the interior Southwest with highs in the upper 90s and 100s.
