UPDATED By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Dustin Devine
Residents of the Gulf Coast will start off the work week keeping an eye on Hurricane Ida, while another Pacific storm brings soggy weather to the Northwest. Sunny skies will be common across the rest of the U.S., with mild temperatures in the East and cool autumn air in the Intermountain West.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Rachel Peterson has the latest on today's weather in this exclusive WeatherBug Video.

Heavy rain and wind will spread across the Gulf Coast today as Hurricane Ida approaches. Up to 3 inches of rain will fall, and due to the cloud cover for most of the day, temperatures will only reach into the upper 60s and low 70s for highs. Temperatures will climb into the 80s on the Florida Peninsula.

It will be another dreary day in the Pacific Northwest, as a Pacific storm pushes onshore with rain and mountain snow. Highs will again reach into the 50s. A weak cold front will also spread some light showers from the central Plains into the western Great Lakes. Afternoon temperatures will range from the 50s and 60s across the western Great Lakes to the 70s over the central Plains.

The rest of the U.S. will enjoy a sunny and pleasant day. Highs will be mild over the eastern U.S. ranging from the 50s and 60s in the Northeast to the 70s and 80s over the Mid Atlantic, Mississippi Valley, southern Plains, and Desert Southwest. Sunny skies won`t provide much warmth across the Intermountain West. Highs will top out in 40s and 50s in the northern Rockies, and 50s and 60s across Great Basin, southern Rockies and California.
